Kelly Clarkson is not just some talent show contest with a one shot opportunity. She IS a superstar. She not only has the beauty and sweet personality, she's got the talent to back it up. Her voice is sultry and powerful...and she's going to be around a long time. I know American Idol comes off a little cheesy, but the show did its job by giving us Kelly Clarkson.
I was also pleasantly surprised to see that she even co-wrote a few of the tracks on this cd. Although all of the tracks are a great listen, after listening a few times, I have to say my favorite track (at least at the moment) is "Just Missed the Train" which is a mid tempo rock ballad. Another track to note, "You Thought Wrong" features fellow American Idol contestant Tamyra Gray which goes right up there with other diva duets like "The Boy is Mine", "Enough is Enough" and "Does He Love You" (which if you can find it, there's a live version of that song featuring Reba with Miss Kelly Clarkson). Anyway, if you want great music with a sweet blend of pop, soul and rock, order this cd...it's worth the money.

I didn't watch a single episode of "American Idol" and was not a Kelly Clarkson fan before I bought her cd, so I had no preconceptions about her before buying it. I liked her single "Miss Independent", so I gave her a shot, and I'm glad I did. The girl can sing. It seems like "The American Idol" fans just want her to do more of the same on her cd. Well, I've got bad news for you: that part of her career is over. She branches out a bit here. No, each song is not a classic. It's her first cd, give her a break. I've got over 2000 titles on cd from pretty much every genre, and I think this is a strong cd. If you like excellent vocals with a touch of blues-gospel, I'd get this. If you want her to sound like the star-struck kid that she was on "American Idol", then don't. Personally, I think the remixed versions of her two songs from that show are the weakest cuts on the cd.

In a word: WOW! This is not what I was expecting at all. I guess what I expected was a piece of decently written and performed teen pop, like Christina. What we got was a mature, well-written, well performed piece of music. The album is squarely in Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Sheryl Crow territory. I knew this girl had a set of pipes, but the album (and studio magic) really shows off her powerful voice. Pretty much every song is a winner. I think the only negative about the album is that it's not terribly radio friendly. There are CDs, and there are CDs that are made up of radio-friendly singles; Ms. Clarkson's does not fall into the latter. However, I think this will work out for her in the long run. The performers who have been around the longest are those who consistently work to put out good CDs rather than just good singles. I can't wait for Kelly to mature as an artist and begin to take on more of a creative roll. THEN we'll really get to see a perfect marriage of voice and personality. I would recommend this CD for all Pop and Adult Contemporary collections.

Kelly's voice is absolutely amazing. Even if you didn't watch or like the Idol show, give this CD a try. Her voice will win you over. Each song is better than the last. I listened to the CD two times all the way through before I started picking up on the intricacies of the album and was able to appreciate each individual song. The third time through just blew me away and I haven't stopped listening since. There is a good mix of rock, pop, gospel and R&B - enough so that each song is completely different and you don't get bored with the same old sound. Although her first two singles are included on this CD, after hearing the rest of it, they seem simple and almost trite. The rest of the CD shows incredible maturity, range and, again, that amazing voice! This is a great CD to add to your collection. You won't regret it!

Ballads such as "Some Kind Of Miracle" and "Anytime" showcase her vocal diversity. The upbeat tunes of "Miss Independent" "Low" and "You Thought Wrong" add a pop quality for the young at heart.
"What's Up Lonely" "Just Missed The Train" "Thankful" and "Anytime" are all songs that could very well get alot of airtime on Adult Contemporaty stations. "Beautiful Disaster" with it's rock style really stands on it's own. No need to skip any track on this one. Overall, this album rates high because of it's diversity. Kelly and company have definitely put out a quality list of tracks. Well worth purchasing.
